ATLANTA HAS ALWAYS BEEN A CITY THAT BUILDS. THE POSTWAR BOOM reshaped the suburbs, and the decades of growth that followed kept the pace. Ambition has never been the problem. What the city’s design and construction world has mostly lacked is a single place where builders, designers and homeowners can work through every product decision and leave with a real plan, not just a mood board. Construction Resources has been working toward that vision for more than 50 years.
Last June, the Decatur-based firm opened its new flagship at Westside Paper, a repurposed office and retail complex on Atlanta’s Westside, and it’s genuinely unlike anything else in the local market. The space runs 50,000 square feet and covers all of the company’s specialty categories: appliances, cabinets, countertops, decorative plumbing, fireplaces, lighting, garage doors, outdoor living, shower doors, mirrors, tile and flooring. Sub-Zero and Wolf, Cambria, Kohler, Bell Cabinetry and Forum Quartz are among the many brands represented.
“We identified a need in the market for a true single-source solution where clients or our design consultants can guide their customers through all interior selections in one location,” says Whitney Bruns, Construction Resources’ vice president of showrooms. “With our broad product range, in-house installation teams and deep commitment to service and design, we’re uniquely positioned to fill that gap and create a seamless experience.”
The company got its start in 1970, when Fred Hires founded it in Decatur as Atlanta Marble Manufacturing: one product, one purpose. His sons, Mitch and Sonny, eventually took over, and what began as a marble shop grew into a network of more than 60 locations spanning manufacturing, fabrication, distribution and showrooms along the Eastern Seaboard. The Westside flagship, alongside existing locations in Buckhead and Decatur, is the first to bring the company’s entire product range into one room.
That range has grown quickly and deliberately. The company acquired Bell Cabinetry, a respected custom cabinetry brand, in December 2024. In April 2025, it added Opustone, a prominent South Florida distributor of luxury stone and tile. More recently, it picked up Vitoria International, a leading natural stone and quartz distributor. The point isn’t just growth; it’s control over the full experience, from where the materials come from to how the finished room looks.
That’s also how the process works in practice. A client comes in with a vision, and the team helps bring it to life, guiding them through selections across every category over the course of the project. Measurements are taken, quotes are prepared and Construction Resources manages delivery and installation.
One product line drawing a lot of interest right now is Kohler’s new Wellness collection. The timing makes sense. Buyers have increasingly come to see the bathroom as a space for recovery, not just routine, and that’s pushed spa-level features from the wish list into actual project specifications. Wellness has become a real line item in high-end residential builds, and the products to support it have caught up.
The Wellness line includes indoor and outdoor saunas, along with the Ice Bath by Kohler x Remedy Place, a cold plunge tub that supports both cold-water immersion and warm soaking. The Underscore Heated BubbleMassage bath combines hydrotherapy jets with a heated backrest and programmable lighting. The Anthem+ smart showering system consolidates water, steam, sound and light into one interface, with up to 12 water outlets and 11 programmable spa experiences.
“We’re really excited about Kohler’s Wellness line because it reflects a broader shift in how people think about the home, especially the bathroom,” says Laura McGee, strategic sales director of plumbing. “It’s evolving into a space for relaxation and daily routines that support overall well-being. It’s also a natural fit for our showroom. Builders and designers are looking for ways to elevate their projects, and wellness-focused products give them a meaningful way to do that while helping clients create spaces that feel as good as they look.”
For Atlanta’s building and design community, having it all in one place changes how projects get done. The luxury residential market here is active. Clients come in knowing what they want, and the professionals working with them need a partner who can keep up.
Construction Resources has always built its business around the trade. Builders and designers aren’t an afterthought; they’re the heart of the company. The showroom is designed to serve as a genuine extension of their practices, not just an errand or a checkbox of to-dos. For a builder managing multiple projects and tight timelines, a partner who can handle selections, measurements, delivery and installation without things falling apart isn’t a nice to have. But the experience works just as well for homeowners who want to make actual decisions, not just scroll through options.
“Builders often refer their clients to us for assistance with product selections, while designers regularly use our spaces to guide their clients through the decision-making process,” Bruns says. “Whether they prefer a hands-on approach from our design consultants or a more self-guided experience, we tailor our support to meet their needs. Few companies invest as deeply in their clients’ success as we do through our showrooms, expert staff and comprehensive offerings. Our breadth of premium brands, full-service capabilities and unwavering commitment to the customer experience set us apart.”
Construction Resources also stays involved in the professional community outside the showroom, hosting continuing education events and staying active in local industry associations. It’s the kind of investment that doesn’t show up in a product catalog but matters to the builders and designers who rely on their partners to understand the business, not just the materials.
“The heart of Construction Resources is its people,” says CEO Mitch Hires. He notes that the company’s culture is one of family—both for the clients they serve and the employees who make it all happen. “Something about our values and culture that reads through is that there are good people here, people who are passionate about what they do. Some of our employees have been with us for decades. It’s a vibrant, fun workplace, and we’re growing daily.”
Atlanta has spent decades building. Construction Resources is a place where the full picture of a home, kitchen, bath, outdoor living, all of it, can come together in one conversation. The company that started as a single-category marble shop in Decatur now carries some of the most respected names in the industry and runs one of the most complete design destinations in the Southeast.
