Tucked among the resort communities of the Golden Isles, St. Simons Island is celebrated for its incredible landscapes, from salt marshes to sandy beaches, and boasts breathtaking sunsets, historic charm and a relaxed pace of living. Year after year, these qualities beckon millions of visitors to the island, seeking respite, escape and, increasingly, creative connection.

For more than 30 years, Anderson Fine Art Gallery has served as a conduit between artists and collectors, offering a broad range of work by established, nationally recognized artists. Such endurance through decades of change reflects the Golden Isles’ reverence of art and respect for those who create it.

The gallery’s represented artists work predominantly in landscape, figurative and still life. Paintings range from ultrarealistic to impressionistic and abstracted realism. As diverse as the works are, they bear similarity in their display of strong observation, technical skill and emotional clarity. “Rather than chasing trends, we remain grounded in work that is thoughtfully made and built to endure,” says owner Mary Anderson. “I choose paintings I would want to live with. The work should speak for itself.”

To that end, the gallery selects its artists through careful curation, driven by the quality of their work and Anderson’s personal conviction. Naturally, professional history and exposure carry a significant amount of weight in the decision, but an equal emphasis is placed on consistency, professionalism and emotional resonance.

That approach comes to vivid, colorful life on the gallery walls. Drawing on the rich inspiration of the Golden Isles, land and seascapes are a focal point for many of the artists whose work is represented by the gallery. It is a balance of coastal sensibility paired with a national scope, however, that gives the gallery a broader relevance, bolstered by artist-led workshops and nationally recognized exhibitions such as the Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society and the National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society—the latter of which will be on display from May 1 through May 30, 2026. “Artists are selected for technical excellence, subject relevance and long-term compatibility with the gallery’s clientele,” Anderson explains.

Such criteria have proven to be central to the gallery’s success and growth over the last three decades. With its blend of established and emerging artists, the gallery appeals to seasoned collectors and first-time buyers, achieving a national reach with clientele in nearly every state, as well as Canada—both through direct contact with buyers and close partnerships with interior designers along the East Coast.

Operating in a digital age, Anderson Fine Art Gallery offers a full catalogue of work online—but it is in person that the gallery truly shines. Gallery patrons, whether local or visitors to St. Simons Island, are given a unique advantage to those merely viewing the collection on a screen. “Seeing a painting in person, engaging with the artist and building lasting relationships remain central to the gallery’s philosophy—relationships that, in many cases, now extend to second-generation collectors,” Anderson says. “This longevity is built on mutual respect and trust, both with clients and with the artists the gallery represents. The result is an environment that is approachable, thoughtful and deeply rooted in a love of great art.”

The shared trust and long-held relationships to which Anderson so deeply dedicates herself are evident in the many years that artist Christopher Groves has been represented by the gallery. “Groves is one of our longest represented artists,” says the gallery owner. “His work has been a cornerstone of the gallery for many years. Our enduring partnership reflects a shared commitment to quality, consistency and artistic integrity.”

Each year of this professional relationship has given collectors the opportunity to follow Groves’ artistic growth while underscoring the gallery’s commitment to nurturing its artists. This fall, the collaboration enters a new chapter with an exhibition featuring Groves’ work, opening November 27, 2026. “His work stands out for its ability to move beyond the familiar and reframe the beauty of the everyday. Through a thoughtful balance of traditional training and contemporary ideas, Groves offers viewers a fresh perspective on subjects that might otherwise go unnoticed. His work is never static; it continues to evolve as he develops as an artist, as the world transforms around him and as perspectives and interpretations shift over time,” Anderson says. “At the core of Groves’ work is a strong sense of narrative. Each painting becomes a journey—not only for the artist but for the viewer as well. Themes of time play a central role, with traces of past, present and future often coexisting within a single composition. Whether working with landscape or still life, Groves explores self-reflection, contemplation and the broader human experience, inviting viewers to engage emotionally as well as visually.”

According to Anderson, several works in the exhibition represent particularly meaningful moments in Groves’ artistic development. These pieces are notable for the ways in which realism and abstraction are layered within the confines of a single canvas, using color theory, distinctive markings and understated narrative elements to create depth and sentimentality. “Viewers are able to recognize the realism of the subject while interpreting the abstraction in a personal way, becoming active participants in the story unfolding on the canvas,” she says.

The breadth of Groves’ work showcases his incredible technique and range, mastery of method and formal training that includes study at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy, and CAA Atelier Colorado and Colorado University—all layers to the overall painting that has been his journey as an artist.

These metaphorical layers are what give Groves such unique positioning, both complementing and expanding the gallery’s curatorial vision. “His paintings add depth to the range of styles we represent, offering collectors and visitors a contemporary lens through which to experience realism and abstraction,” Anderson says. “This variety allows clients to form connections across different visual languages, broadening the gallery’s appeal while remaining grounded in craftsmanship and artistic integrity.”

Anderson encourages viewers to see Groves’ paintings as a vehicle for connection, as his work reflects shared human behaviors, memories and emotions to reveal the ways that experience and history unite us all. “While each viewer’s journey through the work is deeply personal, the paintings act as a catalyst—evoking reflection, memory and emotional resonance,” she says.

At the core of Groves’ work is a strong sense of narrative, a reflection of the artist’s desire for “each painting to become a journey”—not only for himself but for the viewer as well. “I am manipulating themes of time to play a central role, with traces of the past, present and future,” he says, emphasizing his intent for all to coexist within a single composition.

Whether working with landscape or still life, Groves explores self-reflection, contemplation and the broader human experience, inviting viewers to engage emotionally and visually. Ultimately, he distinguishes himself among contemporary painters through his unique ability to bridge the gap between tradition and modern sensibility, achieving a voice that is timeless and distinctly personal. That versatility translates naturally into the varied spaces of residential design and commercial environments.

Groves’ own versatility and timeless appeal are a microcosm of Anderson Fine Art Gallery’s overall philosophy. Each piece found on its walls is chosen for depth, each artist chosen for resonance—creating a collection of pieces that shape interiors, spark dialogue and endure. After three decades, such a philosophy has become less of a strategy and more a way of life for Anderson and her team. *
