Muse & Co. Fine Art, founded by Donna McDonald and Judy Goldberg in 2010, is located in historic Marietta Square. Showcasing over 30 emerging and established artists, the gallery features original contemporary and transitional paintings, sculpture and photography.
This month, Muse & Co. highlights artist and interior designer Albert (Bert) John Jr. Raised in Jacksonville, Florida, in a family of artists and antiques dealers, John’s passion for art was deeply rooted in his upbringing. He honed his skills while earning a master’s degree in interior design from Savannah College of Art and Design. After graduation, he pursued both painting and residential interior design.
John’s work captures the coastal landscapes of his childhood, often beginning with tangible images—photographs or plein air landscapes—before evolving into abstract interpretations. “With intention, I add an atmospheric perspective or haziness to many pieces to literally blur the scene,” says John. This subtle manipulation allows the viewer to imagine a setting, perhaps from a memory, which elicits an emotional reaction to a painting.
His paintings have been featured on national television, in local and national publications, and in juried museum shows. John’s works can be found in celebrity homes and his design clients’ interiors.
