Stonecraft’s signature luxury outdoor living designs transform backyards into private retreats

by Dana W. Todd

MANY COMPANIES USE TERMINOLOGY LIKE “QUALITY” AND “craftsmanship” as they describe their businesses. But for entrepreneur Rob Green, founder of Stonecraft Design & Build, the philosophy behind the words “quality craftsmanship” is one on which he has built his entire company and career.

Before launching Stonecraft in 2023, Green was a sole proprietor running an installation crew for pool contractors, installing hardscapes and pavers to complete residential pool projects. He began to see a downward trend in the outdoor living industry; fewer people were taking pride in their work and excelling at their craft by developing expertise in the trade. He vowed to use his knowledge to do something about disappointing workmanship. “Quality craftsmen in the industry as a whole are a dying breed,” Green explains. “Plus, homeowners began looking strictly at installation price per square foot when making decisions about which contractors they would choose. They mistakenly believed that all installation services are the same, but there’s a big difference in the level of craftsmanship between companies; the comparison is not apples to apples.”

Stonecraft has a sole mission: to bring the highest level of craftsmanship and quality to luxury outdoor living design and installation services. The company designs and builds any bespoke outdoor living experience imaginable, integrating features such as custom pools, fire bowls, waterfalls, hardscaping, landscaping, structures like pergolas, outdoor kitchens, artificial turf, putting greens and formal gardens.

“Speed and quality don’t go hand in hand,” Green says. “It’s the backbone of quality that is the core of why we do what we do, and it has led to tremendous growth for Stonecraft. We want to be the company that homeowners seek out when they want excellence.”

The company’s 22 employees are attuned to details. For instance, they won’t simply return to installing hardscaping when it stops raining but instead assess the variety of factors that lead to project success. “If we don’t take into account the type of soil or mixture of soils that we are working with on a particular project, then pavers may settle,” Green says. “Our goal is not to have warranty claims, so we take time to ensure the specific soil type has the optimal amount of time to dry before construction proceeds.”

The company can successfully adhere to its exacting requirements for residential projects due to Green’s investment in training and equipment. He holds seven certifications in hardscaping and horticulture and is licensed to teach through the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI). Many of his employees are ICPI-certified and receive regular training in new products and procedures. “We invest in our people and equipment,” Green says. “We own enough equipment to operate four crews at a time and work on four residential projects simultaneously.”

As a design-build company, Stonecraft designs completely new luxury outdoor living areas and can reimagine existing outdoor features to create a fully immersive entertainment environment. “Every project is special in its own way,” Green says. “We take time to understand the homeowner’s vision and fulfill it to deliver an experience. Our design process captures the emotion of the project. When we unveil these experiences to our homeowners, it is usually an emotional, impactful moment. I truly believe our outdoor living designs improve the lives of our clients.”

Stonecraft pays close attention to adding details that provide a cohesive project inside and out. As a designer in addition to being a builder, the company takes the time to integrate a home’s interior style with its outdoor spaces. “It’s important that we design in a way that our homeowners will actually use a space,” Green says. “You don’t need millions of dollars or acres of space to make a big impact, just thoughtful design and the right team to make it happen. Our projects prove that impact comes from the details, not the size of the backyard.”

Some of Stonecraft’s residential projects have gone viral on Instagram, with millions of views. The projects displayed on the company’s website and on social media provide endless inspiration for homeowners, but Stonecraft is not about replicating the same project over and over. Every homeowner receives a customized design that fits their aesthetic and lifestyle. “Every project is a reflection of our clients’ distinct tastes and desires, achieved through an unparalleled fusion of artistry and precision design,” Green says. “We believe an outdoor space should be as functional as it is exquisite, seamlessly blending with lifestyle while standing as a true masterpiece of unique vision.”

Stonecraft brings homeowners’ visions of a beautiful, fully functional backyard to life through a thoughtful and thorough design process. It begins by helping clients articulate what truly suits their lifestyle. A follow-up site visit allows Green to listen closely and understand the emotional heart of each project. Why do homeowners want to build? Are they craving more time to unwind, picturing themselves relaxing by the pool? Or are they hoping to entertain more often, imagining friends gathered around a glowing firepit?

From there, Stonecraft’s craftsmen translate those desires into a realistic outdoor living design that harmonizes with both the homeowners’ goals and the home’s existing architecture. “It’s all about creating an impactful moment,” Green says. “We combine fire and water features to bring the vision to life, using only the highest-quality materials and methods. Every home has its own story, and it’s our job to shape the moments within it. We always go big, bold and unforgettable.”

While Stonecraft primarily builds in Georgia, it designs projects across the nation. “We want to empower our homeowners, wherever they live, to be glad they chose Stonecraft every time they step outside their door,” Green says. “We want to change the way a family lives in their outdoor space.”

Stonecraft designs and builds all of the individual outdoor living components, but it’s how the company’s craftsmen put them together that is the real magic. “The Stonecraft look is timeless,” Green says. “Our designs are intentional and well thought-out; we want to get families outside enjoying their family and friends. If you’re looking for an outdoor living company who will do it right the first time and who takes pride in its work, then Stonecraft is the right company for you. If you also want a partner who is relational, not transactional, and who will treat you like family, your project will be a perfect fit with Stonecraft. We are excited every day to impact lives in a way that most homeowners never thought possible through the design and creation of outdoor living spaces.” *
