Peyton Jamison, president and principal of Jamison Private Wealth Management (JPW) has fully embraced his leadership role while working closely with his father, Bobby Jamison, the firm’s founder. Under the younger Jamison’s guidance, JPW continues to thrive, building on the legacy his father established over the past 40 years.

Headquartered in Milton, Georgia, about 30 miles north of Atlanta, JPW provides high-net-worth individuals, families and businesses with a range of fiduciary, fee-only financial services, including comprehensive financial planning, investment management and accounting. Every advisor at JPW holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation, and two team members also hold the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, ensuring a high level of expertise in both financial planning and tax considerations.

Aside from his full-time duties overseeing the day-to-day operations at JPW, Jamison is also the mayor of Milton, a city of about 42,000 residents, where he has been widely lauded for his commitment. “Milton was incorporated as a city in 2006, and it’s a safe city with the top schools in the county,” says Jamison. “We were very strict when we were developing our zoning laws and design guidelines, so now a lot of people are moving here, and we are protecting our rural heritage. Personally, I think it’s the premier city in Georgia to raise a family. Milton City Hall is directly across the street from my office at JPW. I grew up very close to where I live now, and I always knew I wanted to come back here after college.”

Since the age of 12, Jamison knew the kind of career trajectory he wanted to pursue, and to that end he graduated from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, with a Bachelor of Science in finance. “I knew for a very long time what I wanted to do for a living. The business has always fascinated me, and I am very happy with the career path I have chosen,” Jamison says.

He is also happy with his choice of Auburn University for it was there that Jamison met his future wife, Megan, who was majoring in journalism. The couple got married about two years after graduation, which is about the same time that Jamison joined JPW; they are now are the parents of Tripp (15), Mallory (13) and Holden (10).

“When I started with the firm, Jamison Private Wealth managed approximately $80 million, and now that figure has grown to approximately $900 million, and it’s all been organic growth—we’ve never made an acquisition,” Jamison says. JPW, which was founded in 1988 and is 100% family owned, now works with its approximately 400 clients stressing long-term planning. All investments are done in-house, and JPW currently operates with six full-time employees who boast an average of 20 years of industry experience.

“I really enjoy working with the clients to achieve their long-term objectives for success. A lot of the things I enjoy are estate planning for multigenerational wealth and setting up trust structures in a very tax efficient manner,” Jamison says.

He also stresses the sophistication of his clientele, who understand the ups and downs of the stock market. “Most of our clients understand our philosophy, and they have been through market corrections—and know they are only temporary,” he says.

Jamison points out that every client is different, and they are all deserving of a customized plan. “It’s kind of all-encompassing—it all comes down to individual strategies. We are a concierge boutique service, and as a consequence of that, the financial plans vary from family to family,” he says.

The initial meetings with prospective clients usually involve both spouses and the couple’s long-term goals are discussed. “We talk things through and delve into the possibilities. Then we explain the pros and cons of each and every investment and come to a consensus, and we usually have two to three meetings before they become a client,” Jamison says. “Together with wealth forecasting, long-term cash flow management focuses on effectively overseeing your income and expenses over an extended period. We will work with clients from creating a comprehensive budget to analyzing cash flow patterns, forecasting future income and expenses, and implementing strategies to optimize cash flow for achieving financial goals and maintaining financial stability.”

While the majority of clients are in the Atlanta area, often they move away but still retain the services of Jamison Private Wealth. “We actually have clients throughout the United States,” Jamison says. “Our strongest catalyst for growth has been referrals from clients. We get recommended every month, and we don’t take the loyalty of our clients for granted.”

To keep up with the market trends, Jamison reads The Wall Street Journal, investment research reports, company earnings reports and watches CNBC and Fox Business on TV. “It’s very important to be as informed as you possibly can. We have a team approach at JPW,” Jamison says. “We have investment committee meetings and tax meetings. We have a great team, and everyone has been here a long time. We have basically zero turnover, and we all work really well together.”

Jamison has myriad goals moving forward. He says the firm is looking at more than $1 billion in assets in the foreseeable future. “Our firm is doing really well, but that’s in large measure because we take our responsibilities so seriously,” Jamison says. “When we assess a family’s financial goals and create a strategy to secure a comfortable future and stable retirement, that’s very important. We don’t take that responsibility lightly, and determining the amount of money a family needs to save, selecting the best retirement accounts, managing their investments and advising them on when to retire is a big lift, but one for which we are well qualified. We know our first and foremost responsibility is to our clients, and we never forget that.” *
