When Timothy Poe creates a piece, his goal isn’t to make a viewer see one specific thing, but rather help turn them on their head, give them an “Alice through the looking glass” experience of seeing beyond what is in front of them on the canvas.

Using multimedia, Poe has literally explored the “looking glass” by using the reflective surface of mirrors to achieve specific techniques in his pieces—all of which explore abstract concepts and Poe’s never-ending pursuit of evoking a unique emotional bond between viewers and the objects he creates.

Over the course of Poe’s three decades as a professional artist, his work has been greatly influenced by the modernist, post-impressionist and Bauhaus movements. “My mind’s eye considered the unification of form and color in these respective styles, and that has inspired the varied and contrasting styles of my work,” says Poe, who is based in Birmingham, Alabama. “When people see my work, I want them to feel energized and inspired. I want them to get the sense that it was created from a passion and love of creating just for the sake of it. As an artist, my job is to chase inspiration and capture it to share with others.”
